Carole's interest in the oceans started as a child, when growing up on the coast of California, swimming and diving in its bountiful kelp forests.
Carole has a strong communications background and experience working for a range of environmental organisations. She volunteered as an online writer for PangeaSeed and was a roadie on their traveling shark art exhibit. She wrote policy change proposals for the Japanese NGO Peace Boat, initiating an onboard ban on serving bluefin tuna and shark fin soup. She has also photo-tagged whale sharks with WWF Philippines and worked as a grant writer for Turtle Conservation Project in Sri Lanka.
Carole holds a B.A. in Film & Media Studies from University of California, Santa Barbara.
I am excited to develop my knowledge and understanding of sustainable fisheries and to use my background in media to support IPNLF's ongoing communications and outreach; promoting the benefits of, and stories behind, the one-by-one fisheries IPNLF work with.Carole Ryu
