After graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Marine Zoology from Newcastle University, Joanna travelled far and wide to explore the oceans and gain experience in a variety of conservation roles. Through her educational and professional career, Joanna has developed her understanding of the role that eco-tourism can play as a driver for improving ocean resource management and the well-being of local communities.
For the last couple of years, she has worked as a resident marine biologist and educator within luxury hotel resorts throughout the Indian Ocean. Using her knowledge of the tourism industry and marine sustainability issues Joanna will work with IPNLF's outreach team to develop strategies to engage with new sectors, to further increase the awareness of the benefits of one-by-one fisheries and the work IPNLF is doing to support them.
I am looking forward to applying my knowledge and skills to support responsible one-by-one fisheries around the world.Joanna Eames (Ecotourism Outreach Intern)
