The ProActive Vessel Register (PVR) is an online, voluntary register of fishing vessels and a tool to verify some of their commitments to improved management practices. The International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) initially developed the PVR as a traceability tool to provide information on the tuna supply chains linked to large-scale industrial fishing vessels. IPNLF, together with its local Indonesian partners Asosiasi Perikanan Pole & Line dan Hand Line Indonesia and Masyarakat dan Perikanan Indonesia (MDPI), supported a Proactive Vessel Registration (PVR) pilot to promote greater transparency in pole-and-line and handline tuna supply chains in Indonesia. During the PVR pilot, data on the vessels were collected at field sites, uploaded to the AP2HI and MDPI databases, and ultimately transferred to the PVR database. During the pilot 12 pole-and-line vessels were successfully uploaded to the PVR system.
