Andrew’s passion is in developing and supporting sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. Whilst directing the operations of a Dutch sustainable fish brand called Fishes, the company became the first retailer and wholesaler on the European continent to be awarded with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Chain of Custody. This was followed by the launch of the first MSC canned tuna product in Europe a few months later, which received much recognition.
In 2008, Fishes was awarded Most Sustainable Fish Brand at the prestigious Seafood Choice Alliances (Boston, US) and won the NIMA marketing award’s CSR category, Best Brand in the Netherlands a year later.
After helping establish the brand, Andrew decided to seek new challenges and moved away from direct engagement in the commercial sector towards development, bringing with him years of commercial experience.
In 2010, Andrew founded Our Source Consultancy to promote and engage in sustainable sector development to reduce poverty. Our Source aims to help bridge the frequently observed gap between small-scale fisheries and aquaculture production, with the rest of the value chain, specialising in targeting market barriers and alleviating financial restraints.
Andrew’s background in commercial sector and expertise has proven to be a valuable asset in helping developing banks, industry and governments assess and improve supply chains to increase greater wealth distribution and efficiencies.
Pole-and-lline tuna fishing has both ecological and social benefits for developing countries. Yet fisheries are often unable to realise the full benefits of global demand, due to fractured supply lines. IPNLF bridges the gap and acts as a conduit, helping small coastal communities sell their tuna to retailers and brands around the world.
