Fisheries Information System

Fisheries Information System

A core part of effective fisheries management is effective data capture – the recording, compiling and dissemination of fisheries catch and fishing effort data in a timely manner. Working with the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture (MoFA) and an in-house data specialist, IPNLF developed the Fishery Information System (FIS). The FIS is an online database which tracks fishing licenses and allows remote entry of logbook data and store fish purchase, and then formats the data as required by the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) and national fisheries statistics.
