The Training of Trainer scheme is an international programme in action in the Maldives and Indonesia. The educational scheme was initiated in collaboration with our partners Asosiasi Perikanan Pole-and-Line dan Handline (AP2HI), Maldives Marine Research Centre (MRC) and Masyarakat dan Perikanan Indonesia (MDPI), with the objective to improve fisher knowledge on the topics of sustainable fisheries, product quality and handling, bait handling, safety at sea and the MSC standard and certification process.
In the Maldives, workshops and educational sessions are organised by MRC and taught in the FCTC. Representatives from one-by-one tuna fisheries are invited to the session and provided with the tools and resources they need to share their knowledge with their company, and become trainers themselves. Through this practice IPNLF hopes to extend the reach of and engagement with educational schemes, improving the lives of the fishers, and enhancing the sustainable use of tuna resources.
