Fair Trade USA is a nonprofit organisation that uses a market-based approach to empower producers by providing them with a fair deal for their work. The Seafood Program, launched in 2014, brings these benefits to fishermen and their communities in a bid to protect fundamental human rights and sustain fish stocks for the future. One-by-one tuna fisheries in the Maldives and Indonesia have been certified against the Fair Trade USA Capture Fisheries Standard. Within the support of this programme, fisheries and connecting coastal communities become more resilient, benefiting from greater access to capital and enhanced environmental stewardship. IPNLF sit on the Fair Trade Fisheries Advisory Council (FAC) to consult on the conservation, economic, and applied aspects of Fair Trade Seafood program.
