“Collaboration at the heart of sustainable change”

We are an international charity that works across science, policy and the seafood sector. Our charitable objectives are focused on promoting sustainable development through the conservation of the marine environment and to strengthen the ability of local coastal communities and small-scale fishers to conserve biodiversity, safeguard food security, build climate resilience and eradicate poverty.

In the pursuit of a more fair and equitable world, cross-sectoral collaboration is essential. Through our collective voice we raise the profile of these fisheries with relevant decision makers, supply chain companies and to consumers ensuring that these fisheries can thrive for generations to come.

We are uniquely positioned as an organisation to connect fisheries, markets, decision makers and the end consumer.

We work with our members and their supply chains, partner NGOs and the donor community. With our global marketing campaigns, we inform, teach, encourage and entertain while always keeping the best interests of one-by-one fishing communities at heart.

Markets

Tuna is a global commodity that is consumed at both ends of the market. Not only is it sought after by high-end consumers as tuna steaks, sushi, sashimi and poke, it is also a vital, affordable source of protein for many coastal communities in low-income countries.

IPNLF increases public awareness about the environmental, social and economic benefits one-by-one tuna fisheries bring within the marketplace. With a people-centric approach, IPNLF educates consumers of the benefits of buying environmentally sustainable and socially responsible tuna products.

IPNLF are involved in every stage of the one-by-one tuna supply chain; this enables us to help connect businesses all over the world, introducing companies to potential supply chain partners, and facilitating connections to new source fisheries. Connecting companies and consumers to increase support for responsible tuna in key supply chains and markets, contributes to advancing sustainable demand for one-by-one tuna.

Our global marketing activities and digital campaigns tell the stories of the local coastal communities and showcase how IPNLF members’ sourcing decisions directly support one-by-one tuna fisheries; thereby safeguarding coastal livelihoods, contributing to food security and strengthening local economies.

Inform & Educate

We focus on raising awareness of the holistic sustainability of our one-by-one fisheries through our Sourcing Transparency Platform (STP) and our Fisheries Improvement Toolbox (FIT). We expand our reach to the wider public by helping to educate them about the protection, enhancement and rehabilitation of coastal and marine environments and how they can contribute to sustainable development by making fully informed and ethical seafood choices.

IPNLF engages in educational programmes and we utilise existing platforms of our members and other partners; by targeting popular media channels for story placement and working with influencers, ambassadors and relevant platforms we expand our social media presence and ensure that our content remains fresh, interesting and reaches a global audience.

PARTNERS

We have partnerships with a number of organisations around the world under various degrees of formality and, through these relationships, we are able to amplify our impact and generate greater change in the industry.
